Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
