A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the airport.

Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a major ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest information on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Passengers should still plan to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
