Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
